Pink Diamond’s Mysteries
Diamond lovers and collectors have long been fascinated by natural fancy pink diamonds. Queen Elizabeth II herself owns a flower broach that contains a 23.6carat pink diamond, while Victoria Beckham wears an exquisite pink diamond engagement ring. The color pink is often associated with love and for many the pink diamond has become the ultimate symbol of loving emotion due to its color and rarity.
Scientists find the pink diamonds particularly fascinating due to the way it obtains its color. Unlike other natural fancy color diamonds, pink diamonds do not get their hue from foreign trace elements that have been trapped inside the diamond. Instead, they receive their color from light that reflects off growth planes. These planes are formed when disturbances occur in the diamond’s growth process, creating grain lines that bend light, producing a pink hue. The more grain lines, the stronger the hue of the diamond, and the more valuable it becomes.
At Guildhall Diamonds, we are proud to offer investment grade pink diamonds. All of our diamonds have been graded by the Gemology Institute of America (GIA), the diamond industry’s most trusty authority on gemstone quality. We offer only the highest quality natural fancy color diamonds to our customers and our products may be bought loose or placed in one of our custom-designed pieces included in our Wealth to Wear collection.
The prices of more heavily saturated pink diamonds often make headlines. For example, a 24.79 carat emerald-cut pink diamond that had been graded as “Fancy Intense Pink” by the GIA was sold for $45.6 million. Not all pink diamonds carry a hefty price tag however. In fact, a natural fancy light pink diamond may carry a price that is comparable to many high-quality white diamonds.
